Joint US/UK Study into Housing Associations and CDCs

We have recently completed a joint study with our colleagues at the Affordable Housing Institute in Boston, MA.

The study, which took almost a year, spent considerable time in reviewing a group of Housing Associations in the UK, chosen for their diversity of size location and client groups. In parallel with this a similar review in the US looked at a range of Community Development Corporations and similar agencies.

The original intention was to use the information on the histories and development to help inform housing programmes and structures in the global south - South America, Africa and Southeast Asia. We are continuing our support in these areas and have also found the study to be of great interest in the US and UK. Both countries are at 'interesting' stages in their evolution of not for profit housing regimes and are keen to learn from each other and to move forward.

More information will be posted here but for now you can find the extract and summary report. You can also download a copy of the presentation given by Ray Christman of Atlanta and Gaynor Asquith from arc4 as part of World Habitat day in October, hosted in 2009 by the USA.

If you would like an electronic copy of the full report, or to receive a copy of the final printed version,

please contact Gaynor Asquith through our web link.
